Spanish Education has undergone a dramatic tranformation over the past decade, with a huge improvement in standards in both private and state schools. Education is not compulsory in Spain until the age of six. Many parents of British children choose to send their children to Spanish nursery school first, where they learn the language quickly. At age 11, children are often moved to English or international schools. State school education is free, whilst private school fees start from about 6,000 Euros per annum. There are a good range of international schools in the more popular areas and around cities, whilst more remote areas have only Spanish schools.
